Britt Strottman Named “Energy & Environmental Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal
Meyers Nave proudly announces that the National Law Journal selected Principal Britt K. Strottman to its list of the nation’s top 50 “Energy & Environmental Trailblazers.” As the 2017 special report explains, “Our goal is to spotlight those making a big difference. While many of those recognized come at the regulatory, compliance and litigation processes from different angles, a common thread ties them together: each has shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their missions.”
The National Law Journal featured Britt’s seven-year role as Special Counsel assisting the City of San Bruno with legal, regulatory, investigation and crisis management issues regarding a PG&E natural gas pipeline explosion in 2010 that killed eight people, injured 58 others and destroyed or damaged 90 homes.
As Britt explained in the article, San Bruno “had never faced a tragedy like this. … It was very unusual for a city of 40,000 to take on a utility head-on.” The article also noted that San Bruno initiated public records act litigation against the California Public Utilities Commission which uncovered illegal ex parte communications between PG&E and the CPUC. PG&E recently agreed to settle this matter for $86.5 million. In 2015, the suit earned San Bruno a James Madison Freedom of Information Award from the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists.
