Gina Roccanova Named Chair of Labor & Employment Practice

OAKLAND – Meyers Nave proudly announces that Gina Roccanova has been named Chair of the firm’s statewide Labor and Employment Practice Group. Gina joined Meyers Nave in April 2015 as a Principal and co-chair of the practice.

“From the moment Gina joined our firm, she has demonstrated excellent leadership, strategic business acumen and keen operational insight. Naming her chair of the group reflects the great work she does for our clients and the greatness she brings to our firm,” said David Skinner, Managing Principal of Meyers Nave.

“Meyers Nave has an outstanding Labor and Employment Practice, and I am excited to both be part of it and lead it. I look forward to helping to expand the practice throughout our California offices,” explained Roccanova.

For nearly 20 years, Roccanova has been providing public and private clients with the benefits of her extensive experience in negotiations, counseling, litigation, arbitration and training. Her career includes a decade of service as a Deputy City Attorney on the Labor Team in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office where she represented management in labor negotiations with numerous employee groups as legal counsel and lead negotiator; successfully defended the City in litigation, arbitration and unfair labor practice proceedings; and supervised disciplinary and public integrity investigations. Reflecting her highly regarded public service and legal expertise, in 2013, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee appointed Roccanova to a six-year term on the San Francisco Civil Service Commission, which oversees all aspects of City employment and serves both a policy-making and adjudicatory function.

Roccanova has also handled employment matters for private and non-profit entities in the health care, education, hospitality, marketing, and technology sectors, among others. She has particular expertise in the areas of discrimination, accommodation, leave of absence laws, wage-and-hour law, and NLRB enforcement in non-unionized workplaces. Roccanova is a California State Bar certified mediator. She earned a JD from the University of Michigan Law School and a BA from Yale College.
