Municipal Law

Meyers Nave understands the complex legal constraints municipalities face today. Our city and special district clients deal with many - sometimes conflicting - challenges, from keeping the streets clean to providing sanitary sewer service, from managing numerous employees to prioritizing and funding projects. We help them keep all of these functions on track and implement policies that enhance their communities.

As contract city attorney and general counsel for dozens of public agencies, we:

  • Provide day-to-day advice to staff
  • Attend council, commission and board meetings
  • Prepare resolutions, ordinances and agreements
  • Represent our clients in litigation as needed.

We also serve in a similar capacity as general counsel to numerous special districts and as special counsel to both cities and other public entities.

Our attorneys counsel clients on all types of procedural legislation and voter-sponsored initiatives, such as code enforcement, public meetings/Brown Act, the Political Reform Act, and government reorganization. We also advise and represent clients in all substantive areas of public agency law, including land use and environmental law, public works contracting, finance and taxation, election law, and employment practices and procedures. When our clients need help with specific projects, they rely on their Meyers Nave team for supplemental support in areas such as redevelopment, eminent domain and telecommunications.
