Areas of Law  |  SPECIAL DISTRICT

Within the public agency arena, special districts are a special breed. That's why Meyers Nave has a team of attorneys who focus exclusively on the unique legal needs of these entities. Our attorneys help clients to both form and operate special districts that fill a diversity of single- and multiple-service needs, in areas ranging from: water and sanitation to fire protection; libraries, parks and recreation; and from utility services to mosquito abatement.

We have experience with all types of special districts, including:

  • Enterprise districts
  • Non-enterprise districts
  • Dependent districts
  • Independent districts

Attorneys in this department have "walked the walk," and therefore are more effective in representing special districts than more generalized public agency attorneys. Most often we serve as general counsel, providing legal guidance with a well-grounded understanding of our special district clients' unique needs, in order to keep them operating smoothly.

Our attorneys also provide specialized expertise in areas such as:

  • Special district fees and assessments
  • Elections and political law
  • Public works contracting
  • Employment issues
  • Real property acquisition

In addition, because each type of district has its own governance, election and financing issues, some of our attorneys choose to further specialize their practices to focus on specific types of districts.
