Summary:
Climate Change: Local Government Response
Presented by

Eric W. Davis &
Joel Ellinwood
Program Description: Local governments and policy makers are
at the forefront of California‘s attempts to address climate change. Many
local agencies are developing their own proactive approaches to assessing and
addressing climate change impacts. As the state is developing the AB 32 regulatory
framework designed to curb the production of greenhouse gases, incentivized
regional voluntary collaboration is emerging as the principal strategy to balance
local control of land use and the achievement of statewide goals (e.g. SB 375).
City and county governments must determine how best to approach the new strategy
and state mandates to follow.
Learn about the emerging state of California’s regulation of greenhouse
gases and the ways in which local agencies are confronting the challenge of
climate change in land use, transportation, local government operations and
CEQA environmental documents. The presenters will share their knowledge of state-level
regulatory actions, local government and case law to provide insights and strategies
for how local governments can best address the global issue of climate change.
