Nancy Thorington
Nancy Thorington is a member of the firm’s Public Law and Land Use Practice
Groups. She drafts ordinances, handles code enforcement, reviews professional
services agreements and other contracts, and assists the firm’s municipal
clients in a wide variety of transactional issues. Her land use work includes
general plan updates, subdivision and affordable housing issues, California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance, and historical resources matters.
She also engages in appellate work.
Ms. Thorington also brings over seven years of federal Indian law experience
that includes drafting a variety of tribal codes that have been adopted by tribes
nationwide. She has worked with several tribal organizations on community development
plans for zoning, transportation and access issues and related land use matters.
She negotiated a multi-million dollar real estate purchase and financing for
two non-profit organizations. Ms. Thorington wrote a guidebook for the California
Department of Transportation on tribal consultation requirements for Caltrans
employees and contractors. She also wrote and oversaw over $1.3 million in federal
and state grants.
Prior to joining Meyers Nave, Ms. Thorington worked as a senior appellate associate
writing appellate briefs and conducting oral argument in California, Washington
and Oregon. Previously, she was vice president of a mortgage brokering corporation
where she supervised the escrow department and headed the loan servicing branch.
She also taught English at a junior college in Tucson, Arizona and is a founding
member of a music recording studio.
