Construction Litigation Junior Associate – 3 to 7 years of experience (Oakland)
ABOUT MEYERS NAVE
Meyers Nave began in one office with five attorneys focused on one primary area of law. The firm has since expanded across California, with attorneys advising on more than 20 complex fields of law. Meyers Nave serves public entities, businesses, non-profit organizations and public-private partnerships located throughout California, as well as clients based in other states that have interests in California. Amidst its growth and change, the essence of what makes Meyers Nave different remains the same – the firm treats work colleagues as friends and clients as family.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Meyers Nave is looking for a California-admitted litigator to join its Construction and Facilities Group (CFG). If you join us, you will represent mostly public and private owners undertaking major infrastructure improvements. Cases and assignments will include project planning, counseling and litigation of claims and disputes with contractors and design professionals. Your cases will be complicated, involve substantial amounts-in-controversy and complex deposition practice. You will contribute to strategic decisions, interact directly with clients and examine witnesses at trial.
Experience with construction or contract litigation is helpful, but not essential. Our preferred candidate is someone who has a passion for practicing law, who appreciates the collegiality and support that comes with firm practice and who has the desire to invest in long-term personal and professional development. Our practice is growing and we are looking to develop the next generation of successful infrastructure and construction lawyers.
A background in or significant experience with construction or contract litigation is helpful, but not essential. More important is the appetite for complexity, curiosity, skepticism, tenacity, and the passion to continually improve your legal skills. We will expect you to delve into voluminous project records to unravel the truth, synthesize murky jurisprudence, and to write precisely, concisely, and persuasively. We also expect you to work efficiently, not only for our clients’ benefit, but so you will have time to enjoy your family, friends, and to pursue your own goals outside of the office.
The lawyer who will thrive in this position has:
- excellent academic credentials (near top of class)
- experience with or an interest in contract or construction-related disputes
- a passion for writing and research
- an interest in public agency law
- a sense of humor
We will provide you in return:
- competitive compensation
- excellent benefits
- a collegial, team-oriented work environment
- mentoring and professional development
- an excellent support team
- structured training and CLE
- opportunities to advance professionally
- a place to put down roots
