Sacramento Convention Center
Please join Meyers Nave attorneys Tim Cremin, Shaye Diveley and Shiraz Tangri for a presentation at the League of California Cities Annual Conference that addresses strategies for streamlining the environmental review burden under the California Environmental Quality Act. CEQA compliance is often the biggest source of time delays and litigation risk for project development. Recent statutory changes and judicial decisions provide potential opportunities to reduce burdens imposed by the CEQA process, including expanded use of exemptions, “fast-track” legislation, and tiering off existing EIRs. The presenters will describe these strategies to help public agencies assess the options for meaningfully reducing the time and cost of environmental review required for new infrastructure projects. The presenters will use case studies to illustrate the pros and cons of different streamlining mechanisms and explain when they should be considered.
