California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018

How does the California Consumer Privacy Act affect you?

Beginning January 1, 2020, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) establishes a consumer’s right to request a business to disclose the categories of personal information that it collects, the sources of that information, the purposes for which that information is used, and the third parties with whom the information is shared. The CCPA also establishes additional consumer rights when a business is involved in the sale of personal information. Meyers Nave does not sell any personal information.

How can you manage your personal information at Meyers Nave?

Meyers Nave’s Marketing Department collects the following categories of personal information – name, employer, job title and email address. The sole purpose is to distribute to you various electronic communications, such as Client Alerts about developments in the law, access to articles published by our attorneys, invitations to and login information for our webinars, and important Firm news, such as attorneys who have joined our Firm, new and expanded practices, and recent awards and recognitions.

As specified in the CCPA, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal information. Every electronic communication from our Marketing Department includes an “unsubscribe” link and clicking on that link will both unsubscribe you from the specific electronic communication and delete your contact information from our Marketing Department database. If you would like to have your personal contact information deleted now and stop receiving electronic communications from our Marketing Department, please click here to unsubscribe. Please type “unsubscribe” in the subject line of your email message.

Where does Meyers Nave get your personal information and is it shared?

Meyers Nave’s Marketing Department obtains your personal contact information from three sources: (1) information that you provide on our website when registering to attend webinars or signing up to receive Client Alerts, News Updates and Firm Announcements, (2) information that you provide to our attorneys or staff when you attend events where Meyers Nave attorneys speak and/or staff members host a marketing exhibit table, and (3) information that you provide to third party event hosts when registering to attend their events and to whom you have given specific permission to share your contact information with organizations, such as Meyers Nave, that contribute funds to help sponsor the respective event. Meyers Nave’s Marketing Department does not sell or share your personal contact information with other entities for their business or commercial use.
